PANJIM: The Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department has partnered with the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to promote sustainable development practices in the state.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Rajesh Naik, Chief Town Planner, and Gurmit Singh Arora, Chairman of IGBC, in the presence of many dignitaries, including MLA Deviya Rane and TCP Minister Vishwajit Rane.

The collaboration aims to integrate green concepts into development plans, policies, and programs in Goa, with CII – IGBC acting as a ‘Sustainability Partner.’

The signing of the MoU marks a significant milestone in advancing sustainable urban development, with both parties committed to benefiting the state and its residents.

Later speaking to reporters, TCP Minister Vishwajit Rane said,''We need to develop green hub. We have taken Indian Green Building Council on board. Goa is the only country with which they have signed the MoU. They have been working with different states on different subjects.''

To a question, he said he had already discussed with the Chief Minister with regards to regional plan and the same can be viewed by the Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho. Rane said the department is ready to extend its support to the ministry of industries by modifying regulations, if required.

He said decision with regards to increasing FAR has already taken and if Industry Minister Mauvin Godinho requires further modifications the department will consider the same.
