Tension at Varca over corruption charges

MARGAO: There was a massive hue and cry at the stormy gram sabha meeting of the Varca panchayat as the battle between the ruling group of panchas and opposition panchas continues to escalate The two groups also addressed media persons later.

While the group led by the Sarpanch Selu Fernandes rejected all the allegations levelled against them as baseless and accused the opposition panchas and their supporters for trying to disrupt the gram sabha meetings, the opposition panchas accused the ruling group of panchas of deliberately trying to sideline their voices and they added that all the allegations they have made are not false.

The opposition panchas, who consist of Sharon Alemao D’Costa, Edison Rodrigues and Nora Rodrigues, said based on their complaints memorandums have been issued to the panchayat by the BDO and that the vigilance department has called them for an appointment.

However, the Sarpanch’s group reiterated that there is no corruption. Earlier at the gram sabha, the overall budget amount to Rs 7.2 crore was passed with some corrections.
