Three new criminal laws will shape  the future of Bharat: Sawant

PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said that the rollout of the three new criminal laws is a historic day for the country and it will shape the future of Bharat.

“Use of technology, justice on time and redefining the crime are the characteristic features that will shape the future of Bharat,” the Chief Minister said.

The three new laws which come into force in the country are Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. They will replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC) of 1860, the Code of Criminal Procedure Act of 1898, and the Indian Evidence Act of 1872, respectively.

The Chief Minister said these laws represent the 'Viksit Bharat ke Panchpran’ envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Director General of Police (DGP) Jaspal Singh, IPS, said, “The new laws will stress more on justice. It means taking the cases to conviction using the latest technology. It has statutory provision of zero FIR. If you are travelling and your belongings are stolen. You can file a complaint after getting down at your place of choice. It also has provision of e-FIR. If your vehicle is stolen then you can file an online complaint.”

Chief Secretary Puneet Goel said, “Now, one will not have to go to the police station under whose jurisdiction crime has taken place. It will stop now. It is very important for citizens.”


Chief Secretary and DGP come face-to-face

PANJIM: Amidst the ongoing controversy of the Director General of Police (DGP) Jaspal Singh’s transfer, Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, IAS came face-to-face with the former and other police officials during the official inauguration ceremony of the process of implementing the three new criminal laws at the Panjim police station on Monday. 

The three new criminal laws which are the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam will bring a widespread change and end the colonial era laws. 

DGP Singh said, “Today, all Indians deserve compliments as it is a red letter day in the legislative history of the country as three new criminal laws, enacted by our own popularly elected Parliament, with the theme 'Dand to Nyaya' come into operation. The old colonial laws stand repealed.”
