MARGAO: Popular Goan tiatrist Alison De Curtorim was booked under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act by Maina-Curtorim police. He was arrested and subsequently released as per the orders of the Margao court.
The case stems from a complaint filed by Imaculado C J Travassos of Fondegal, Curtorim, on August 25. The complaint states that before August 19, a WhatsApp user with the number +44741 7550115 had continuously harassed the complainant and his family members on the messaging platform, by sending objectionable messages and morphed photographs.
Alison De Curtorim, accompanied by his lawyer, addressed the media on Sunday evening after being released on bail. He questioned the way he was arrested and expressed his desire for justice, asserting his innocence in the case.
According to his lawyer, Alison faced charges under the IT Act and IPC, specifically related to the use of a UK-registered number to send messages containing objectionable photos, as objected to by the complainant. However, Alison claims that he was not informed about these allegations when he was summoned to the police station.
Alison recounted that he was asked to visit the police station at 9.30 am on Saturday, where he was arrested unexpectedly. He alleged that upon his arrival at the station, he was grabbed by his collar, taken into custody, and his phones were confiscated.
Complaining that he was denied contact with anyone, Alison claimed that he was initially informed that he would be released by 7 pm. However, he stated that the complainant, along with 50 people, arrived at the police station and pressured the police not to release him.
Alison clarified that he had not surrendered but had voluntarily visited the police station in response to the summons.
The lawyer announced their intention to follow legal procedures to retrieve Alison’s phones, as his work and livelihood depend on them. He further alleged that Alison was being targeted due to his political songs and mentioned that a defamation case would be filed against the complainant.
