PANJIM: Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on Monday tendered a public apology to North Goa Member of Parliament Shripad Naik over failure of his department to invite him for the inaugural function of renovated Dona Paula jetty.

“As a Tourism Minister I take the onus and convey my due apologies. Such type of negligence is not acceptable. He is fully supporting us in all things which are taken up. This type of instance will not happen in the future. I personally met him and apologised,” Khaunte said.

Naik, who is the Minister of State for Tourism, had expressed his displeasure for not being officially invited for the inaugural function of renovated Dona Paula jetty and had questioned if it was being done deliberately to sideline him.

Reacting to the controversy over charging tourists to enter Dona Paula jetty, the Tourism Minister said that it is a norm followed across the country to charge entry fee at tourist places.

“The revenue generated will be used for maintenance of the jetty.  Goans will have to produce any identity card having a local address for free entry,” Khaunte said.
