MARGAO: South Goa Police are still mum over the crucial evidence of the Ponda Police Station CCTV camera which is required in the murder case of Kanhaiya Kumar Mondal, a labourer, who was killed on June 25.
However, as O Heraldo reported, the Ponda police are behaving in a bafflingly mysterious manner and cannot produce CCTV footage in over 15 days. Sources have informed O Heraldo that they initially said the footage is corrupted. “We are analysing the CCTV footage of the CCTV camera of Ponda Police Station and the case is being investigated,” SP Sawant said.
The SP refused to answer why there is a delay in collecting and recovering the CCTV footage.
SP Sawant also did not reply whether the CCTV footage has been collected or not or whether it is destroyed, deleted or manipulated.
She further informed O Heraldo that the station diary of Ponda Police Station is being verified as of now.
Goa Police has already suspended three policemen for negligence of the duty that caused the death of the 32-year-old Bihar native labourer. On Thursday, police arrested a driver from Khanapur, Karnataka, who allegedly ran over the deceased’s body in the wee hours on June 25. The police have also added a Section of murder against the driver.
