12 INJURED IN GAS LEAKAGE AT SCRAPYARD IN ST CRUZ ; 60 AFFECTED
One woman who was badly affected is out of danger; scrapyard owner unconscious

Sixty
persons were affected in the gas leakage at a scrapyard at St Cruz, early
Thursday morning. Seven adults and five children below the age of 12 were
admitted to Goa Medical College, Bambolim
.
The scrapyard is alleged to be illegal.
25 persons were discharged after
first aid. One woman who was seriously injured but is reported to be out of
danger. The owner of the illegal scrapyard Namdev Pachangi is also reported to
be unconscious.
St
Cruz MLA Rodolfo Fernandes said that gas should not be brought in a residential
neighbourhood. What has happened in not proper. He said he was with the people,
if they want the illegal scrapyard to be removed, he is for it.
Congress
Block President John Nazareth said the scrapyard was illegal and should be
removed. He said many people were affected by the gas leakage.
Neighbours
described how they were horrified by the incident. They said they had been
blinded by the gas and had breathing problems.
