In a horrifying incident, a 23-year-old woman from Delhi was gang-raped while learning to ride a scooty with two friends, a male companion, and a female colleague. The brutal assault occurred in the Tronica City police station area of Ghaziabad on Thursday, November 30, 2023. Three men dragged her to an isolated spot, where she was sexually assaulted. Following a gunfight, one of the accused, identified as Junaid, was arrested. He sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and is currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
According to ACP Ritesh Tripathi, Junaid admitted during questioning that he and his friends targeted the woman and her female friend. The survivor's male companion managed to escape with the female friend when the assailants attempted to drag her into the bushes. However, the arrested suspect confirmed that the female friend was also a target. Fortunately, the duo fled when a vehicle arrived, prompting the assailants to retreat.
An FIR has been registered under IPC section 376D (Gangrape) on Friday, December 1, 2023. Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining four suspects who are currently at large. The survivor's friends' roles are also under scrutiny, and a thorough investigation is ongoing. Meanwhile, a recent report from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) reveals a nearly two fold increase in cyber crime cases in Delhi, rising from 45 in 2021 to 685 cases in 2022.
