PORVORIM: In a shocking revelation, Bicholim Ruling MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye remarked that the Community Health Centre Bicholim Operation Theatre is a godown where things are dumped. He also raised apprehensions about the shortage of nurses and doctors at the CHC, which gets around 6500 patients for the OPD itself.

Dr Shetye demanded that the ECG, X-ray and other technicians should be available 24x7, otherwise the patients have to go South Goa District Hospital of GMC. He said the technicians work only from 9 am to 4.30pm, work half day on  Saturday and are off on Sunday.

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said he agreed that the OT was shut. Even GMC’s minor OT was a godown and nurses used to keep food in the fridges meant for medicine. He said as Health Minister he changed all that

He said there was need to recruit doctors from outside Goa if required, and said cabinet has to give approval for filling posts.
