Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Amit Patkar submitted memorandum to the Goa Assembly speaker Ramesh Tawadkar on Wednesday, demanding disqualification of the defected MLA, Aleixo Sequeira following his induction into the Cabinet by the BJP-led state government.
Expressing strong dissent, Patkar questioned the legitimacy of Sequeira's appointment as a minister while the disqualification petition against him is still pending. He termed the move as "total injustice" and emphasized GPCC's formal complaint, requesting the Speaker to appeal to the Governor for the immediate disqualification of Aleixo Sequeira.
Additionally, Patkar highlighted concerns about the delayed decision-making process by the Speaker, urging a prompt resolution on the disqualification petitions against the eight defected MLAs. He pointed out the Chief Minister's prior statement regarding the commitment to Sequeira for a cabinet berth, alleging a premeditated defection strategy by the group of eight MLAs. Calling it as ‘Pre-Planned Defection’ Patkar firmly asserted that these eight MLAs should be removed from their positions.
