In a shocking incident, a bus carrying the employees of a private firm rammed into temporary huts at Verna IDC killing four labourers and leaving four injured. As per reports the driver was under the influence of alcohol, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the huts. Fortunately, the occupants inside the bus escaped unharmed.
On Saturday late at night, a bus was on its way to drop the employees off home from a private company. While passing the service road, the driver intended to take a sharp left turn and rammed the vehicle into the huts of the labourers. The incident occurred at around 11.30 pm.
Eyewitnesses recall the horrific incident stating that the bus did not slow down at the intersection; rather it was high speed and rammed the hutments. There were three huts joined together. Four people died on the spot. All of the victims were natives of Bihar.
Sunita Sawant, Superintendent of Police South Goa later confirmed that at the time of the accident, the driver was under the influence of alcohol, "A bus was carrying employees of a private company. The driver failed in his attempt to make a turn and rammed the bus into the hutments by the side of the road. There were workers sleeping inside. Four of them have died and four of them are receiving treatment in a Sub-district hospital in Madgaon," said.
