Porvorim Police have successfully apprehended two individuals responsible for a series of major house-breaking burglaries that plagued North Goa over the last six months.

According to Porvorim Police Inspector Rahul Parab, the accused persons were involved in two high-profile house-breaking theft cases in the Porvorim area within the last three months. Additionally, they were linked to similar incidents in Mapusa and Khandola, Marcel. A specialized team was formed to investigate the cases, monitoring CCTV footage from nearly 50 locations. Through technical surveillance, the suspects were identified and tracked down.

Reliable information was received indicating that the accused duo was planning another theft during the night of Narkasur and Diwali celebrations. In response, various police teams were mobilized, with instructions to patrol and guard specific points. The suspects were eventually spotted near Alto Porvorim sports club. When approached, the accused attempted to flee but were successfully chased down, overpowered, and detained.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Mr. Shabbirsaheb Shadavali, aged 30, residing in Ambaji, Fatorda, Goa, originally from Gadag, Karnataka, and Mr. Suleman Shaikh, aged 30, residing in Nuvem, Salcete, Goa, originally from New Vaddem Nagar, Vasco, Goa.

Subsequent investigations led to the recovery of stolen gold weighing 162 grams worth Rs. 8,50,000. The police also traced stolen gold worth Rs. 6 lakhs, kept as mortgage in several gold finance firms. Two stolen scooters were seized from the possession of the accused—one stolen from Navelim, Margao, and the other from near Mall De Goa,Porvorim.

A search of Shabbirsahed Shadavali's residence in Fatorda revealed high-end articles used for melting and casting gold, along with diamond detection kits, valued at around Rs. 1 lakh.

Investigations disclosed that Suleman Shaikh is a professional pool/snooker player, while Shabbirsaheb Shalavadi was previously involved in the second-hand car dealing business. Their addiction to casino playing and desire for a lavish lifestyle allegedly led them to a life of crime.

Both accused individuals are implicated in two cases in Porvorim, one case in Mapusa, and one case in Mardol PS. Additionally, they are connected to one bike theft case each in Porvorim and Margao PS.

The Porvorim Police Station team, working under the supervision of SP North Nidhin Valsan IPS and SDPO Porvorim Vishwesh Karpe, played a crucial role in the successful operation. The team consisted of PI Rahul Parab, PSI Sitaram Malik, PSI Sarvesh Bhandari, LPSI Pranita Mandrekar, ASI Umesh Pawaskar, Constables Nitesh Gaude, Mahadev Naik, Utkarsh Dessai, Yogesh Shinde, Siddhesh Naik, and others.
