The International Boxing Association (IBA) Junior World Boxing Championships has witnessed an Indian uptick this year, not only in the boxing ring but also in the management and execution of the event. Goa’s Lenny Da Gama and Danuska Da Gama have been appointed as International Technical Officials (ITOs) for the IBA Junior World Boxing Championships currently ongoing in Yerevan, Armenia from November 22 to December 4, 2023. The appointment of the duad from Goa, India—Lenny Da Gama and Danuska Da Gama—as ITOs for the event indicates the competence and proficiency India brings to the international stage.

Lenny Da Gama has been a prominent figure in the boxing scene for years, and his contributions have been invaluable to the sport. Danuska Da Gama has also played a crucial role in improving the boxing scene in Goa and encouraging more youth to take up boxing. Goa Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) Treasurer, Danuska Da Gama, who is the first female IBA ITO from India, said “I am honored to be appointed as an International Technical Official for the IBA Junior World Boxing Championships in Yerevan, Armenia. It is a great opportunity to represent India and Goa at this prestigious event."

The IBA Junior World Boxing Championships has appointed twenty International Technical Officials (ITOs) who are responsible for the technical and regulatory competence at the event. Besides Lenny Da Gama and Danuska Da Gama, Colonel Manoj Kumar and Dr. Sonia Kanwar (IBA 3 Star RJ) as well as Dr Amar Singh (Ring Side Doctor) have also been roped in for the tournament. The involvement of five Indian personalities in this tournament speaks volumes about India’s escalating influence in the global boxing sphere.
