PORVORIM: Horticulturists at Farmagudi and in other parts of Goa who cultivate crops on the hill slopes have suffered heavy losses due to incessant rains. However they have no property ownership documents or Krishi cards and are not eligible for the  Xetkari Aadhar Nidhi scheme.. Members across party lines raised the issue in their constituencies, during calling attention motion, on Monday.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant assured that he would give fixed special assistance to such horticulturists under Chief Minister’s Relief fund, by Ganesh Chaturthi.

When Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral raised the calling attention, he suggested that the ZAO should meet these horticulturists, inspect the damage and  govt should give compensation.

Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai suggested the adoption of ‘Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme’ as adopted in Kerala by notifying which crops will be covered, due to weather conditions. CM said he would think of adopting the insurance scheme in the long run.
