The Pernem Police Station has shifted gears in a recent investigation, transitioning a hit and run case into a murder investigation following the tragic demise of Devidas, son of Chandrakant Konadkar, aged 55 years. The incident occurred at Dadachiwadi, Dhargal Pernem, Goa, where Devidas was found deceased.

According to SDPO Pernem, Jivba Dalvi, the investigation initially focused on a goods carrier vehicle with registration number GA 03 N 3662, thanks to the assistance of local residents. Subsequent inquiries and interrogations led to the arrest of two suspects.

Reports suggest that on the fateful night of May 12, 2024, around 9:00 PM, the accused individuals had negligently parked their rickshaw in a hazardous position, obstructing traffic flow on a curved road. Devidas, present at the scene, questioned the driver and occupant of the goods carrier rickshaw. This confrontation escalated, leading to the accused chasing Devidas, who attempted to leave the spot on his Yamaha Fascino Scooter (registration number GA 11 F 3368).

Further investigations unveiled a chilling sequence of events where the accused pursued Devidas on their goods carrier rickshaw, deliberately ramming into his scooter at Dadachiwadi, Dhargal Pernem. The impact resulted in Devidas being dragged for a distance before the assailants fled the scene.

The Pernem Police swiftly apprehended the driver of the goods carrier rickshaw, identified as Mohit Kumar, aged 19, hailing from Vill-Badshapur Pachgai, Tehsil-Khurja, Dist-Buland Shehar, Uttar Pradesh. His co-occupant, Abhishek Kumar, aged 20, also from the same village and district, was also arrested. Both individuals have reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime.

A post-mortem examination was conducted on Devidas, following which his body was handed over to his relatives for final rites.

The investigative efforts, under the supervision of SDPO Pernem Jivba Dalvi, were commendable, with teams led by PI Mopa Narayan Chimulkar, PI Sachin Lokre, and PSI’s Navneet Goltekar, Ashish Porob, and Pravin Shimepuruskar. These teams collected crucial evidence from CCTV footage and conducted combing operations in nearby forests with the assistance of locals, ultimately leading to the arrest of the accused.

The investigation continues under the vigilant eyes of PI Pernem Sachin Lokre, with oversight from SP North Akshat Kaushal IPS and SDPO Pernem Jivba Dalvi.
