Irresponsible administration: Lakhs of liters of water are being wasted

While the Goa government applauds its achievements in the Har Ghar Jal Yojana, a closer look within its own jurisdiction reveals a stark reality. Many areas suffer from insufficient water supply, and despite the passage of 15 days, leaking pipelines remain unrepaired.

A significant amount of water is being drained from the 'Jalakumbha' (water tank) managed by the Public Works Department at Kamurli, Rai. Some vigilant locals are questioning whether the water tank is leaking. They demand that the authorities put a stop to this water drainage immediately to prevent further wastage and find a permanent solution to the problem.

Locals estimate that lakhs of liters of water have already been wasted from the reservoir, which is not acceptable, especially during the summer season when water is scarce. They are urging the PWD to take serious action to address the issue and stop the wasteful drainage of water.

Wastage  of water is going on in Porvorim also. On one hand, the government is advocating for water conservation and urging the public not to misuse this vital resource. However, ironically, the Public Works Department of the government itself is observed wasting water. A stream of water can be seen flowing adjacent to the water source department.

When questioned about this issue, some professionals revealed that they had informed the relevant water department about the continuous flow of water for the past fifteen days, but no action has been taken so far. Just two months ago, Porvorim citizens faced water scarcity, and now, due to the negligence of the water department, a similar situation is arising with drinking water.
