In a shocking turn of events, 29-year-old Gaurav Katiyar, a native of Lucknow and a restaurant manager at a five-star hotel in Colva, has been remanded to five days of police custody by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Margao. Katiyar was arrested for the alleged murder of his 27-year-old wife, Sharda Nagar, a native of Diksha Gangawar, at a beach in South Goa.

The incident unfolded on Friday afternoon when the couple visited Rajbag beach at Cabo-de-Rama. According to police reports, an argument ensued, leading Katiyar to allegedly drown and suffocate his wife. The accused then attempted to portray the incident as a case of drowning, claiming he had left briefly to bring food.

Cuncolim police, investigating the case, disclosed that Katiyar has confessed to the crime and may have committed the act suspecting his wife of having an extramarital affair. The motive behind the murder is yet to be fully determined, pending statements from family members and further investigation.

Authorities have recorded statements from five individuals, including tourists who witnessed Katiyar's actions. The post-mortem report is awaited to determine the cause of death, with police suggesting that the victim might have been drowned and suffocated.

The couple, who had been married for one-and-a-half years, visited the beach on a scooter, with inquiries ongoing regarding its ownership. Police believe the scooter may have been rented or borrowed from neighbors. The victim's family is expected to arrive in Goa on Sunday.
