In a shocking turn of events, 29-year-old Gaurav Katiyar, a native of Lucknow and a restaurant manager at a five-star hotel in Colva, has been remanded to five days of police custody by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Margao. Katiyar was arrested for the alleged murder of his 27-year-old wife, Sharda Nagar, a native of Diksha Gangawar, at a beach in South Goa.
The incident unfolded on Friday afternoon when the couple visited Rajbag beach at Cabo-de-Rama. According to police reports, an argument ensued, leading Katiyar to allegedly drown and suffocate his wife. The accused then attempted to portray the incident as a case of drowning, claiming he had left briefly to bring food.
Cuncolim police, investigating the case, disclosed that Katiyar has confessed to the crime and may have committed the act suspecting his wife of having an extramarital affair.
