Senior Citizens couple left in the rain as four houses demolished at Altinho Panjim

PANJIM: A Senior Citizen couple was left in the rain, as four houses were demolished at Altinho Panjim, on Thursday morning. The couple who were in tears said they had been living here for 45 years.

There are many houses but only four houses were targeted, they said. They quoted late chief minister Manohar Parrikar as having given them protection. The demolitions have come as a result of court order, they stated.

The couple said they received the court order about 8 days ago and they were told to vacate the house in four days and demolish it themselves. However, when they failed the government machinery descended on the premises and demolished the house located opposite government quarters, leaving the couple in the rain.

The houses were supposedly on private property.
