TWO BEST FRIENDS FATALLY KNOCKED DOWN BY A TRUCK IN CURTORIM ACCIDENT

Two youth were killed in a dastardly road accident that happened in Raloi, Curtorim on Friday afternoon. The accident happens even as the state was coming to terms with the constant road accident deaths that happened in Goa during the month of February.

A loaded truck filled with bitumen travelling at a high speed fatally crushed two youth near Raloi, Curtorim on Friday afternoon. Tanvesh Naik, aged 21 from Tonynagar and Shrikar Naik, aged 19 from Anandnagar were knocked down by the truck. The deceased duo were on their motorcycle when they were hit by the truck. The accident was so intense that it dragged the duo and their two wheeler in to the adjoining low lying field.

Sources have informed that both were best friends and the truck that crushed the duo belongs to the uncle of one of the deceased. With this accident the number of deaths in fatal accidents has gone up to nine during the month of February.

The number of accidents and deaths in Goa has reached alarming levels. In February at least two major accidents occurred in a day in which seven lives were lost. Ironically, this happened when the State was observing Road Safety Awareness Month. The Road Transport Office (RTO) is conspicuously absent and the Traffic Cell of Goa Police is simply outnumbered.

In February to date, 21 minor and major accidents have occurred on Goan roads. Accidents happened in rural less traffic areas and also in fast-moving urban areas as well. However, these accidents have claimed the lives of seven persons and have left several occupants and pillions injured beyond recovery.
