In a startling incident, an unknown decomposed body was found in a well at Khorjuem, Aldona, on Thursday. Upon receiving information, the fire services rushed to the site and successfully removed the remains and handed it over to the police. The body's state of decomposition was so severe that identifying even the gender became an arduous task.
Lead fireman Shetgaonkar stated that they received a call from the control room in Panjim and immediately rushed to the site to recover the body. “The police and locals were already on site, when we saw it it was completely decomposed. We used a plastic sheet, bedsheets and ropes to remove the body and then handed it over to the police,” he said adding that it was hard to identify the gender.
There are suspicions that the deceased might be a woman who resided in close proximity to the well and has been reported missing for the past month.
“We came to know a month ago that there was woman who was missing. The police came to look for her but couldn’t find her, so they put off the gas and lights which was on at home and closed the door. Now a body was discovered in a well behind, so we’re not sure whos it is or if it is the same missing woman as it is beyond recognizable,” said Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira.
The police and ambulance are currently on site.
