RAIA: Bhatti United Club secured 2-1 win over Fondegal Sports Club to march into the next round of the 1st Caniza Peixeto memorial 9-a-side football tournament organised by Agxem Sports Club at St Alex Church ground, Curtorim, on Friday.
In a fast and attacking football game, Fondegal Sports Club drew the first blood in the 3rd minute of play with a volley from the box through the boots of Ruben Fernandes. Then Bhatti United Club took time to settle and found the equaliser in the 24th minute of play with a neat placement by Jovial Dias.
Both teams remained 1-1 draw at the half time.
In the second session of play, both the teams showed urgency to score goals but Fondegal SC missed the opportunity in the 32nd minute from Kevin, whose power-packed shot missed the target. Then Jovial Dias of Bhatti United Club took pass from Tony Dias and placed the ball in the far corner of the net in the 35th minute of play.
After the goal, Fondegal SC tried hard to find the much-needed equaliser but all efforts went in vain and the match ended in favour of Bhatti United Club.
Ruben Fernandes of Fondegal Sports Club was awarded the man-of-the-match by former player of Agxem Sports Club Sebastiao Gomes (Cameroon).
