RAIA: Corjem Youth Club scored a fluent 6-3 win over Batora United to move into the next round of 1st Caniza Peixoto memorial 9-a-side inter-ward football tournament organise by Agxem Sports Club at St Alex Church ground, Curtorim, on Tuesday.
The match started on the promising note, Batora United could have taken lead in the 4th minute through Granduiz but missed the opportunity. Ashford Rebello of Corjem Youth Club broke the deadlock in the 10th minute with great finish from a free-kick of Glen Cardozo. Batora United had chance to equalise but Velanko couldn’t finish with his last touch.
In 14th minute, Corjem YC Ashford scored his brace from a through ball from Rhey Dias. Corjem YC continued their scoring line through Aiden Menezes from a pass of Ivan Cardozo to make it 3-0 in the 23rd minute. Velanko Paes scored for Batora United in the 24th minute to finish the first half with score 3-1.
Crossing over, Corjem YC started their second half with hunger of more goals. Rhey Dias of Corjem YC added his name on the scoresheet in the 36th minute. Granduiz of Batora United soon made the scoreline 4-2 in 37the minute.
Edmon Dias of Batora United made it 4-3 with a clean finish. Rhey Dias was booked for his tackle in the 45th minute. Corjem YC’s Ashford missed a hat-trick by shooting wide. Batora United could have equalise but Jepal shot was well saved by goalkeeper of Corjem YC. Aiden and Rhey later netted in the 48th and 49th minute respectively to seal their win with match ending in favour of Corjem YC 6-3. Ashford Rebello was awarded the man-of-the-match by former Agxem Sports Club player Piedade Paes.
