RAIA: Cumborda Sports Club defeated Pidadigal Sports Club, 2-1, to advance into the semi-finals of the 1st Caniza Peixoto memorial football tournament, organised by Agxem Sports Club, at St Alex Church ground, Curtorim, on Monday.
The match began cautiously, with both teams eager to score despite the slippery ground. Cumborda took the lead in the 24th minute with a neatly placed goal by Valzino and maintained a 1-0 advantage until halftime.
In the second half, Pidadigal sought an equaliser, but John Fernandes missed a chance in the 35th minute. Cumborda extended their lead in the 42nd minute through Veron. Pidadigal responded in the 45th minute with a powerful shot from Anthony Fernandes, reducing the deficit to 2-1. Despite their efforts to equalise, Pidadigal couldn’t find another goal, and Cumborda secured the victory.
Veron of Cumborda SC was awarded man-of-the-match from Paulo Martin, ex- player of Agxem Sports Club.
