RAIA: The Guardian Angel Sports Club defeated Navelim Sporting Club 3-1 to emerge champions in Cana-Benaulim inter-village football tournament organised by Cana-Benaulim Sporting Association, at Dando ground, Benaulim, on Sunday.
Jaison Fernandes opened the scoring for Guardian Angel SC in the 15th minute. Later, Ronaldo Pereira equalised for Navelim SC in the 29th minute on a penalty kick. Preston Castanha gave the lead to Guardian Angel SC in the 33rd minute, while Godwin Fernandes made the issue more safe, scoring the third goal for Guardian Angel SC in the 46th minute.
The winners Guardian Angel SC were awarded Rs 60,000 plus trophy, while Navelim SC had to be content with Rs 50,000 plus trophy. South Goa Member of Parliament Viriato Fernandes was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Fr Ligorine D’Costa, Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas, other dignitaries and club officials.
