PANJIM: Mae dos Pobres High School, Nuvem defeated Our Lady of Succour High School, Nagoa, 2-0, to move ahead in the Independence Cup 1st all-Goa inter-school under-17 football tournament, organised by Verna Sports Club, at Verna Church ground.
Nigel Pereira and Crossley Warren Dias scored one goal each. Nigel Pereira of Mae dos pobres was awarded the man-of-the-match by former India international player Fulgencio Cardozo.
In the second match, Perpetual Succour Convent High School, Navelim, thrashed St Joseph High School, Margao, 6-0. Mohammed Taufique Gunder and Abner Lourenco scored 2 goals each. Kartik Toraskar and Aaron Pinto scored 1 goal each.
Mohammed Taufique Gunder of Perpetual was awarded man-of-the-match by Noel D'Silva, sports secretary Verna Sports Club.
