Manovikas School to face Perpetual Convent HS in semi-final

RAIA: Manovikas School, Gogol, edged past Regina Martyrum High School, Assolna, 2-1 in the quarter-final to book semi-finals berth of the Founder’s Cup 2024 U-17 boys 9-a-side inter-school football tournament organised by Union of Chinchinim Villagers at Chinchinim church ground, on Monday.

Both the teams started on a cautious note and the play was mostly confined in the midfield. In the run of play, Regina Martyrum HS scored through the efforts of Sheffield Dias in the dying minutes of the first half to make it 1-0.

In the second half, Manovikas School started on an attacking note and started raiding Regina Martyrum HS defence time and again and were successful as Reuben Barretto got the much-needed equaliser in the 20th minute. 

In the dying minute of the match, substitute Ethan Mascarenhas scored the winning goal for Manovikas School. The player-of-the-match award was bagged by Ethan Mascarenhas. In the second quarter-final, Perpetual Convent HS thrashed St Jude High School, Betalbatim 5-0. Tawfique Gundar opened the account for Perpetual Convent in the 10th minute with a neat finish. Vernon Cardozo scored the second just before the halftime.

In the second half, Tawfique scored twice to complete his hat-trick. In the last minute Tawfique scored again to make it 5-0. Tawfique Gundar of Perpetual Convent HS was awarded the player-of-the match. Perpetual Convent will meet Manovikas School in the semi-final on Wednesday.
