PANJIM: The Village Panchayat of Calangute organised a three-day “Inter-School Sports Fiesta 2024”, recently.
Eight schools from in and around Calangute namely Little Flower of Jesus High School, Calangute; St Joseph's High School, Calangute; Vidyaniketan High School, Calangute; Don Bosco High School, Calangute; St Domnic Savio High School, Calangute; Lourdes Convent High School, Saligao; St Joseph’s High School, Arpora; St Theresa’s High School, Candolim, participated in the events which were held at West Coast Sports and Cultural Club, Calangute Association and Poriat football ground, which consisted of 13 different sports, with more than 400 students participating with great enthusiasm and zeal.
Assistant Director (Coaching), Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Panjim, Irwin Silvestre Cordo was the chief guest, while Head Coach Bruno Coutinho, was the guest of honour. Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira, Deputy Sarpanch Geeta Parab along with panchas, other dignitaries and special invitees were present.
Panch Sapnesh Vaigankar was the co-ordinator. Felly Gomes and Zemora Fernandes compered.
The sports events were set to motion after the speech by dignitaries and all the participant students taking part in the March Past with their school flags followed by releasing of balloons to mark the sports event open and the National Anthem.
All the students showcased healthy competition and great sportsmanship under the guidance of their physical education teachers and motivation from their school heads, teachers, parents and others who deal closely with the students.
The events came to an end with declaration of results, which were categorised into girls championships and boys championships.
