Neeza poised for quadruple, Ishita eyes triple crown

RAIA: Rising star Neeza Kamat dazzled the arena by advancing to the finals in four categories - girls U-15, U-17, U-19, and women’s singles, putting her in line for a rare quadruple crown in the Ulhas Jewellers BPS Major Ranking Table Tennis Tournament 2024 organised by the BPS Sports Club under the aegis of Goa Table Tennis Association, at the multipurpose hall, Fatorda, on Sunday.

Ishita Colaco has also made headlines by reaching the finals in three categories - girls U-13, U-17 and women’s singles, giving her a shot at a triple crown. Pradnya Caro has been the other standout player in the girls section, reaching finals in the U-15 and U-19 category. 

On a day of exhilarating matches, Ishita displayed her skills and determination by outplaying Pradnya Caro 3-1 in the U-17 girls asemi-finals, while Neeza secured a convincing 3-0 win over Shreya Phadte in the other semi-final. 

The U-19 girls semi-final saw Neeza continuing her dominant run with a 3-0 win against Urvi Surlakar and Pradnya Caro advancing to the final with an impressive 3-0 win over Riya Gopi. 

The women’s singles semi-finals were equally thrilling, as Ishita once again proved her mettle by overcoming Pradnya with a flawless 3-0 performance. Neeza mirrored this result outsmarting Urvi Surlakar 3-0 to cement her place in the final.

This tournament serves as one of the event for selections for the table tennis nationals. 

Results: U-17 girls singles semi-final: Ishita Colaco bt Pradnya Caro 3-1. Neeza Kamat bt Shreya Phadte 3-0.

U-19 girls singles semi-final: Neeza Kamat bt Urvi Surlakar 3-0. Pradnya Caro bt Riya Gopi 3-0.
