RAIA: Sao Jose de Areal SC edged out Sporting Club Davorlim 8-7 via tie-breaker to move into semi-finals of Super Soccer inter-village football tournament played at St John de Baptista ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Sunday.
In an slow paced encounter which saw hardly any attacking intentions of the teams. Ashnoy Gomes and Tyson Carvalho tried hard for Sao Jose de Areal in the midfield, while Bonny Niasso and Selwyn Miranda excelled for SC Davorlim.
After a barren first session, Bonny Niasso came close to get the opening goal for SC Davorlim but his dipping shot was puched out of danger by Areal goalkeeper Austin Costa. Leo Gomendes of Areal SC also missed scoring chance.
To break the deadlock, tie-breaker method was applied in which Bersal Viegas, Stalen Oliveira, Ashnoy Gomes, Aryan Carvalho, Cliford Costa, Alister Monteiro, Vanael Travasso and Leo Gomendes netted for Sao Jose de Areal SC; while Bonny Niasso, Selwyn Miranda, Milton Colaco, Aaren Figueiredo, Sahil Inamdar, Venson Figuiredo and Micky Furtado were on target for SC Davorlim.
Ashnoy Gomes of Sao Joao de Areal was presented the man-of-the-match award by Sanford Braganza, president of United Boys of Dando, Benaulim, and one of the football promoter of Colva.
