RAIA: Agxem Sports Club secured a spot in the semi-finals of the 9-a-side football tournament organised by Sporting Club Virabhat by defeating Eklate FC 3-1, at St Alex Church ground, Curtorim, on Wednesday.
The match began at a brisk pace, with Eklate drawing first blood in the 5th minute as Vicky Cardozo beat Agxem goalkeeper Chadu. However, Eklate's lead was short-lived. Agxem's Alroy Gomes was brought down outside the box, earning a free kick that Nickson Castanha expertly converted, levelling the score. Before half-time, Alroy Gomes scored again, putting Agxem ahead 2-1 at the lemon break.
In the second half, Eklate applied heavy pressure, nearly equalising with a shot from Joy Hilario that missed the target. Agxem, however, extended their lead when Nickson Castanha's powerful left-footed shot from outside the box found the back of the net. During injury time, Eklate had opportunities to reduce the deficit, but Agxem's goalkeeper and defense held firm until the final whistle.
Elroy Gomes of Agxem Sports Club excelled on the field with his accurate passing and assist. He was declared man-of-the-match presented by Stanley Fernandes.
