PANJIM: Four out of 16 candidates contesting Lok Sabha elections in the State, are having criminal cases registered against them and one of the candidates is having a serious criminal case registered against him, Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) said on Monday.
According to ADR State coordinator Bhasker Assoldekar, six of the candidates, out of the 16, are crorepatis while Rs 87.71 crore is the average assets of the candidates.
One candidate of the Congress has a criminal case registered against him, 2 candidates of Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) have criminal cases while one independent candidate is having a criminal case registered against him, the ADR said.
Both candidates of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) do not have any criminal record, the ADR added.
As far as the financial background is concerned, both candidates of the BJP and Congress are crorepatis, one candidate of Corruption Abolition Party (CAP) and one candidate of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) are crorepatis, the ADR said.
The candidates with high assets are Pallavi Shrinivas Dempo (Rs 1,361 crore), Ramakant Khalap (Rs 17 crore) and Shripad Naik (Rs 10 crore) and Captain Viriato Fernandes (Rs 5.27 crore).
The top three candidates with low assets are Adv Vishal Gajanan Naik (Rs 3 lakh), Deepkumar D Mapari (Rs 4 lakh) and Tukaram Parab (Rs 4 lakh).
BJP South Goa candidate Pallavi Dempo has declared a liability of Rs two crore.
Out of the 16 candidates, one is class VIII pass, one Xth pass, two XII pass, four graduates, four graduate professionals and four post-graduates.
As per the ADR, four candidates are in the age group of 31-40, five 41-50, four 51-60, one 61-70 and two 71-80.
There are 5,80,577 eligible voters in North Goa Lok Sabha constituency and 5,98,812 in South Goa. Out of them 5,71,617 are male while 6,07,715 are female voters. There are 28,042 new voters while names of 7,544 voters have been deleted, the ADR said.
