After monsoon-deficit June, State records 9.8% excess rains on Friday

PANJIM: Incessant rains during the last few days have taken the total seasonal rainfall to cross 50-inch mark on Friday.  Heavy rainfall is forecast in some isolated places for the next 24 hours.

As per Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the State has so far recorded 1271.6 mm (50.06inches) of rainfall as against the normal average of 1158.4mm. After monsoon-deficit June, almost 9.8 per cent excess rains State has got today.

In the last 24 hours ending 8.30 am of Friday, State recorded 79.6 mm rains.  On Friday, the State was on orange colour warning while yellow colour warning is issued till Sunday. The fishermen are advised against venturing into the sea during the period. 

Maximum rainfall in last 24 hours was recorded in Canacona i.e. 126.8 mm followed by 90.8 mm in Pernem. Other stations too recorded good amount of rainfall over 70mm.  

The heavy rains have caused flooding in various parts of Goa, including Panjim. With more rains expected over the weekend, Goans may have to brace for more inconvenience caused by water logging.
