Are police following the Pooja Sharma case script in the Velingkar case?

PANJIM: Despite the Additional Sessions Court rejecting the anticipatory bail application of Former RSS Goa Chief Subhash Velingkar, he has not been arrested by the Goa Police. This seems to be the same script, used by the police in the Pooja Sharma Assagao House demolition case.

Despite the lower court rejecting her anticipatory bail and the High court rejecting her interim relief from arrest petition, Goa police had not arrested Pooja Sharma, despite 22 days having passed after the house demolition, with the use of bouncers and bull dozers.

Like the Pooja Sharma case whose bail was rejected, Subhash Velingkar too has not been arrested. Summons were sent to Pooja Sharma after filing of the case, but police did not arrest her when she failed to appear before the Goa Police. Similarly, two summons were sent to Velingkar but he did not appear before the Bicholim police. The third summon was dispatched on Tuesday.

But police say he cannot be traced. The same claim had been made in Pooja Sharma case that she could not be traced.

Velingkar had made the offensive speech against St Francis Xavier on October 1, 2024, at Bicholim. The FIR was not filed until after a huge gathering of people blocked the roads in Margao and refused to vacate till he was arrested. But police merely assured just like in the Pooja Sharma case that police teams had been sent to look for him.

On October 7, Velingkar’s bail application was rejected, but till now he has not been arrested. In the Pooja Sharma case too she was not arrested after her bail was rejected by the Sessions Court. She was not arrested even after the High court rejected her interim relief from arrest petition.

“They are definitely follow the Pooja Sharma script in the Subhash Velingkar case. There is a specialty of Goa Police, especially the Crime Branch, if there is a political case, they start work within 15 minutes. In my case, the police reached all my houses within 15 minutes. I just can't digest that they cannot find Velingkar. They are taking so much time to arrest him. It looks like Goa Police are not competent. Or rather they are competent and the government is making them incompetent,” Adv Amit Palekar told O Heraldo.
