Are you satisfied with directions to Subhash Velingkar to appear before police or did they expect more to be done?

PANJIM: The High Court had directed the former RSS Chief Subhash Velingkar to appear before Bicholim police station on Thursday. Police stated that if he cooperates, an arrest might not be necessary. Thereafter Velingkar appeared at the Bicholim police station. In this edition of Street Voices, Herald TV asked people on whether they are satisfied that the directions to appear before police or did they expect more to be done?

Of course, there were already search notices pasted on his house. And Subhash Velingkar is not such a person that he should not have been traceable in Goa. In Goa you can even find a needle. Goa is not like Uttar Pradesh. And on top of that, they are calling him for questioning.

It’s like giving him a royal treatment. Where is the question of questioning. First he should have been arrested if he has not surrendered. Questioning is secondary. Something more should have been done.

We have to respect the law of the land. The direction given by the High Court to surrender for questioning, it is according to the law. We cannot speak much on the law. Just a few days back Velingkar’s bail was rejected. That is part of the law. Everyone who had done these things or committed crimes, have to surrender themselves.

The questioning which he had tried to evade, he has been directed by the court. His bravado to create divisions among Goans has not succeeded. Those who supported him have not succeeded. The law and the judiciary are alive. He should not create such mischief in future.

The government of Goa has deliberately delayed his (Subhash Velingkar’s) arrest. According to the Supreme Court ruling, any hate speech, suo moto, the police has to file a case on its own, and arrest the person immediately. Subsequently, he could seek bail, but Government of Goa has told the police not to find him and say that he is not available and made complaints file various complaints and allowed him to approach two courts for anticipatory bail.

The High Court has asked him to report, because that was the only defense of the Public Prosecutor. Public Prosecutor said on his anticipatory bail application, that all that is required is approach the police station and come for investigation which is conducted by the police. Public Prosecutor was also lenient in his behavior.
