PANJIM: In a bid to build up additional pressure on the Sancoale Village Panchayat to revoke the construction licence issued to Bhutani Infra project, the villagers on Saturday appealed to the people and activists across the State to join peaceful mega protest in the village on Sunday, October 27, at 3 pm.

Speaking to mediapersons at the Azad Maidan, Panjim, Sancoale panchayat member Maurelio Carvalho said, “Our former sarpanch Premanand Naik is on indefinite hunger strike for last six days. He has refused to withdraw his fast despite appeals by villagers and elected representatives. We are concerned about Naik’s health even as he is firm on his decision that the village panchayat should revoke the construction licence issued to M/s Parmesh Construction Company Limited. We appeal to people of Goa and activists to join peaceful mega protest at Sancoale panchayat office on Sunday evening and to express their solidarity to Naik and force the village panchayat to revoke the construction licence by Monday.”

Demanding that the Sancoale Village Panchayat should revoke the construction licence, Carvalho said, “Let M/s Parmesh Construction Company Limited challenge our decision in the Court.”

Activist Rama Kankonkar too appealed to farmers, teachers and political parties to join the peaceful mega protest on Sunday.

“I request Opposition political party presidents to request their candidates to send minimum 10 workers from each constituency to attend the meeting and express their solidarity to Premanand Naik,” said Kankonkar.

Kankonkar alleged that the Chief Minister was busy campaigning in Maharashtra Assembly polls and had no concern to address the burning issues in the State.

Activists Peter D’Souza, Dipesh Naik and others were present during press briefing.
