PANJIM: Though the RTI Act was enacted in 2005, till date the Act was not available in the State’s official language. At last the Information Commission is in the process of translating the Act and make it available to the public soon. This was announced on the occasion of RTI day, which is celebrated on 12 October but was preponed to 11 October, in view of Dussera festival
All the states have the mandate to translate the RTI Act into their official language, so that the Act reaches and benefits the people. But for some reason the translation did not happen. On Friday, Atmaram Barve, State Information Commissioner announced that the RTI Act is in the process of being translated.
He said, “The work of translation has begun. As soon as possible we will circulate the copies to all libraries, all government offices and facilitate the process of reaching it to the common man, so that it becomes easier to understand. We will fulfil this obligation.”tmaram Barve, State Information Commissioner
Arvind Kumar S Nair, Chief Information Commissioner said that the commission has encouraged the First Appelate Authorities not to deny information to the public. He said that their aim is to facilitate a transparent administration. This will reduce the quantum of appeals which come to the Information Commission, Nair said.
Advocate General of Goa Devidas Pangam addressed the first appellate authorities from all over the State at the celebration of the RTI day.
