MAPUSA: The 38 persons arrested for the attack on La Calypso casino were on Friday remanded in police custody for one day by a Mapusa judicial magistrate first class.

“We are investigating into the damage and other aspects of the case,” DySP Edwin Colaso informed.

The 38 accused – five women, five transgender persons and 28 men – were arrested for allegedly trespassing into and damaging the La Calypso casino located at Baga-Calangute. The accused allegedly damaged properties and also molested five female staffers.

It is learnt that La Calypso casino is owned by one Kaushal Khanna, and he had leased out the casino to Atlantis Entertainment for ten years. The lease expired in January 2019, but the lessee refused to vacate the property citing certain grounds in the lease agreement.

Angered at this, Khanna, along with 50 people, had allegedly entered into La Calypso to evict the lessee from the casino. However, once Khanna and his group entered the casino, the bouncers of the lessee closed the doors. Caught inside the casino, Khanna and his men allegedly vented their anger by allegedly damaging and destroying properties inside the casino.
