Pernem: Bodies of two teenagers who were reported to have drowned off Keri Beach on Sunday, was recovered on Monday morning.

The deceased, 14-year-old Tabbasum Khatum and 18-year-old Mohhamad Ali, were amongst the four youngsters who met a watery grave on Sunday while clicking selfies at a ‘no selfie zone’ near Keri beach. Bodies of 17-year-old Sakina Khatum and 25-year-old Mohammad Vakil Ali were recovered on Sunday evening itself. The four deceased were part of a group of 23 people from Candolim and Mapusa.

On Sunday, a group of around 23 people had gone for a picnic at Keri beach in Pernem and at around 5pm, when the group was walking towards Arambol sweet lake from Keri beach. Four persons from the group retreated towards the rocky area to take selfies.

Despite the presence of ‘No Selfie Zone’ cautionary sign boards suggesting danger, the four ventured towards the rocky area and were hit by a sudden wave that knocked them over into the sea.

The Drishti on duty launched an immediate rescue operation. A jet ski was used to search for the missing individuals near the spot, where the accident occurred. Two of the four persons were brought to the shore where a team of lifesavers administered CPR while the ambulance was called.
