PANJIM: The Camurlim Comunidade on Sunday outrightly rejected a proposal from Spacebound Web Labs to hold Sunburn music festival in their village.

The general body meeting of the Comunidade body put its foot down and unanimously opposed the EDM festival, scheduled from December 28-30 and also decided not to allow such festivals for the next five years in their village.

The festival organisers had approached the Comunidade to request for land to hold the event and submitted a formal application to the Administrator of Communidades, Mapusa.

"We have unanimously resolved not to issue permissions for the Sunburn EDM festival and also decided to oppose all such music festivals for the next five years here," a member of the Comunidade said.

The organisers had identified survey numbers 112, 110, and 114, on approximately 1.30 lakh square meters of land as a potential site for hosting the event which was pending for approval from the general body and 68 of the 198 Gaonkars who attended the meeting vowed to oppose it.

As moves were afoot to hold the Sunburn festival may be held in Camurlim, the villagers opposed the event saying that it would have a negative impact on their community and children besides desecrating the environment.

Meanwhile, former Camurlim Sarpanch Sharad Gad thanked the Gaonkars for opposing the EDM festival which would destroy Goan culture. "In future, we will not allow the festival to happen here," Gad said.
