PONDA: The residents of Veling-Priol-Cuncoliem Panchayat submitted a memorandum to the Excise Department demanding that licences of some liquor premises operating in the area be cancelled.
The locals in their memorandum stated that in the past they have passed resolution opposing new licences in panchayat area and despite this, a new licence has been issued in Ward 11 and that too in a house.
They alleged that the around 44 liquor shops in the panchayat area have proved to be a nuisance and the local youth have taken up to liquor consumption.
The locals demanded that Excise Department should not issue new licences.
