Catholics prayed for their beloved deceased on All Souls Day

On this day the Catholic Church prays that those in purgatory, a temporary state of suffering, may eventually reach Heaven

PANJIM: Goan Catholics across the state prayed for their beloved deceased on All Souls day on Saturday. They attended special masses for the dead offered in cemeteries, Churches and chapels. Catholics believe that those who have died and neither gone to Heaven or to Hell are in a temporary state of suffering, called Purgatory.

It is believed that own their own they cannot go to Heaven, to be in the presence of the Almighty. They can only go to Heaven with the prayers of the living.  Catholics pray not only for their deceased family and relatives, but also for those souls in purgatory who do not have anyone to pray for them.

It is also a reminder for the Catholics regarding their ultimate destination.
