PANJIM: The Mapusa Police arrested a Chicalim resident for allegedly cheating a woman of Rs three lakh on the pretext of providing a government job.
According to the police, Smita Bhikaji Salgaonkar, resident of Tarwado, Colvale, lodged a complaint stating that the accused identified as Chinmay Anil Mujumdar approached her stating that he was a very influential person and promised her a government job. He allegedly induced her to transfer an amount of Rs three lakh in his account.
The incident occurred between March 7 and November 13, 2023. Based on the complaint, the Mapusa Police registered a cased under sections 406, 419 and 420, read with 34, of IPC.
During the investigation it was revealed that the accused had also promised government jobs to other persons as well, police said.
