Appeal for restoration of cashier timings at attestation department

Walwyn D' Souza

I am writing to bring attention to an ongoing issue that many citizens, including myself, are facing concerning the attestation department’s cashier timings in the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative building, Margao. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the operating hours for the cashier were reduced, with the current closing time being 12.30 pm. However, the official closing time is supposed to be 1 pm, as per the department’s regular schedule.

Now that the situation around Covid-19 has improved, it is important for the authorities to reconsider this decision. Many people are unable to complete their transactions within this reduced window, leading to significant inconvenience, especially for those who are dependent on public transport or have other time-sensitive commitments.

I urge the concerned department and the government to restore the cashier’s hours to the original 1 p.m. closing time. This would help streamline the attestation process and reduce unnecessary stress on citizens who rely on these services.

Secondly, in the recent time, the attestation department has been incredibly slow when it comes to attesting documents. While it is understood that processing may take time, a delay of about 20 days for document attestation is excessive, and I urge the concerned departments to streamline their operations and reduce processing times to ensure citizens who are the actual taxpayers, receive timely services.
