Ban ground-level hoardings near pedestrian crossing

Walwyn D' Souza

The Goa government has decided to act against illegal hoardings that are put up on metal structures at a height along the highway. However, it is observed that at several places across the State, temporary advertisement hoardings are put up at ground level, along road-dividers. These are usually put up by local politicians and to announce various functions. Such hoardings block the view of motorists, who are unable to spot pedestrians crossing the road.

When these hoardings are near the pedestrian crossing, they block the view of the oncoming vehicle which can lead to accidents. Such ground-level advertisement hoardings which are put up along road-dividers need to be banned.
