Install signal near St Inez Junction

Walwyn D' Souza

There is a dire need for signals to be installed at the junction near Caculo Mall and at the St Inez junction. The road is opened to traffic since mid-July and the traffic department has not cared to either install signals at these two intersections or provided at least central road dividers. The junction near Caculo Mall is peculiar as the four roads do not meet at right angles and there is no central median on any of the four roads as a result of which vehicles can be seen criss-crossing without observing the “Keep left” rule, notably the 2 wheel riders, because of which there is a strong possibility of major collisions at this junction. The St Inez junction too is difficult to maneuver in heavy traffic.

The least the traffic department can do till the signals are made effective is to place temporary road dividers/barriers so that there is a lesser risk of collisions. I had brought up this issue through Herald newspaper on the 22nd of July and the traffic department has paid no heed to the matter. Will the traffic department attend to this important safety issue or Is a major accident necessary for the officials to act?
