Committee of Village People should be consulted on all mega projects: Alina Saldanha

PANJIM: The sustained uprising of people in different villages of Goa is of serious concern the way democratic governance is proceeding in Goa. If we swear of government of the people, by the people and for the people, people’s uprising cannot become the law of the land. There should be a local committee of people to approve the projects since they know the problems faced by the village. This was mooted at an engaging discussion on Point Counter Point programme on ‘The cruel reality of GOA'S Real Estate mega projects’. You can watch the full discussion on Herald TV and YouTube.

There was an interesting discussion on Herald TV’s Point CounterPoint where former environment minister Alina Saldanha, Activist Swapnesh Sherlekar, Congress Vice President Tulio D’Souza and Activist Lawrence Fernandes participated. At one point a Village Committee was mooted to approve mega project in the village. Will this committee work? Will it be filled with political cronies?
