PANJIM: Intensifying its drive against rowdies, the North District Police booked cases against as many as 100 persons during the last week.
The North District Police has intensified drive against rowdy elements as directed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Director General of Police (DGP) Alok Kumar.
According to SP North Akshat Kaushal, extra police force has been deployed in coastal belts, India Reserve Battalion (URBN) personnel are being used, static and mobile patrolling has been increased and that PIs of 14 police stations have been directed to give 12-hourly and 24-hour figures.
During the preventive action taken from October 10 to 18, the police booked 19 persons under Section 35 BNSS (41 CrPC), 22 under Section 170 BNSS (151 CrPC) and submitted Charter processing under Section 126 of BNSS (107 CrPC) against 68 persons and under Section 128 BNSS (109 CrPC) against 13 persons.
Meanwhile, ahead of tourism season, Panjim SDPO Sudesh Naik held a meeting with cruise operators from Panjim jetties on Friday,
The cruise operators have been advised to do the verification of crew members employed by them; to obtain sound permission from competent authorities and to stop music strictly by 10 pm. They have also been asked to keep all safety equipment on their cruises and to check its condition and to see that all safety measures are taken care of.
The staff enrolled for ticketing should be compulsorily enrolled with the Department of Tourism, to see that no undue harassment is caused to tourists and to issue genuine passes/tickets. They have been asked to pay special attention to differently-abled customers.
