ANJUNA: The dance of lawlessness was performed at Siolim, on Monday night. A young man, clearly a tourist, who was seemingly ‘high-spirited’, after purportedly hitting two cars, stopped his rent-a-car and gyrated.
The video which went viral on social media had social media commentators stating that he kept his portable speaker on the road, played some music and then did a little jig.
However, a video on social media shows him coming out of a car, whose front screen is broken and removing a speaker from the car.
Accusations flew on social media that the youth who “was intoxicated”, danced on the street after having crashed into some cars, before he was accosted.
“The youth from Mumbai,” according to a villager elder who spoke anonymously, “was returning home from a party and on his way dented a vehicle. He was followed by locals who stopped him and after an altercation broke his windscreen.”
“The youth removed his speaker from the car to show those who had stopped him that he had gone for a party,” the local who witnessed the drama from a distance.
“He might have had a few drinks, but was not drunk,” he added.
Interestingly no one has filed a police complaint. So in effect the police officially have its hands tied. Which means that there is no case against the young man.
Anjuna Police Station Police inspector Prashal Desai, under whose jurisdiction the incident occurred, said, “Based on a video, we tracked down the driver of vehicle number GA03 W 47 35 and called him to the police station. We spoke to the boy whose name is Tushar and is from Mumbai, and after having been informed by him that the matter is compromised, we let him go,” disclosed Desai.
“We have taken cognisance but with no one coming forward to give any statement in writing, it is not possible to file a complaint. The incident happened on Monday night and till now (8pm of Tuesday) no one has come forward,” admitted Anjuna PI Desai.
“None of the accusations made in the video or through social media could be corroborated with facts. It was claimed that he hit a few vehicles whilst driving his car but till now no one has come forward to file a complaint,” PI Desai said.
