Duo booked for murderous attempt on Calangute cop

MAPUSA: The Calangute police on Saturday arrested two domestic tourists on the charge of attempt to murder after they allegedly rammed their vehicle against a head constable. 

The police gave the names of the accused as Sundeep Kumar (26), native of Andhra Pradesh and currently residing at Bengaluru and Vasant Devendra Madival (32), a native of Karwar. 

The incident occurred on Friday night at Gauravaddo, Calangute when the police were conducting a narcotic raid. When they noticed a car bearing Karnataka registration number KA040NB8391 moving in a suspicious manner, the police intercepted it and nabbed Vasant Madival. 

The head constable Vidyanand Amonkar detained Madival and was taking him towards the nearby parked police van, when the other accused Sundeep Kumar allegedly drove his vehicle in reverse in a rash and negligent manner and knocked down the head constable and dragged him to about 20 metres, while he was discharging his lawful duties.

Amonkar suffered injuries to his face and fractured his hip joint. He has been hospitalised at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Bambolim for treatment.

The police immediately arrested both Kumar and Madiwal under section 279, 337, 332, 307 read with 34 IPC. PSI Rajaram Bagkar is investigating the case under the guidance of acting Calangute PI Milind Bhuimber and DySP Vishwesh Karpe.
