MARGAO: After their successful public meeting in Canacona, the Save Mhadei Save Goa (SMSG) group will be holding similar public meetings in various South Goa district talukas.
While addressing media persons in Margao on Wednesday, the South Goa team of the SMSG group stated that the next public meetings will be held in Sanguem, Mormugao, Ponda and the Salcete.
They added that such meetings will take place every week if possible and the one in Salcete will take place in Margao while they are also going to schools and colleges as part of their awareness campaign.
The group spoke about the recent fires that are occurring across the State including the one that had taken place at Mhadei and demanded that the BJP government find the persons responsible for these fires.
The group members like Vikash Bhagat, Pratima Coutinho, Xencor Polgi and Jayesh Shetgaonkar also wondered if the fires were being done deliberately, especially in the Mhadei region to benefit the Karnataka government, which is seeking to get the river water diverted.
The group members also questioned why there are not so many fires occurring in neighbouring States and only happening in Goa.
They also questioned the government’s preparedness when it comes to disaster management and gave examples of the delays in attending to fires that have taken place lately in Navelim, Curtorim, Cortalim, Sanocale, Mormugao etc.
The group members also criticised Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Forests Minister Vishwajit Rane of always trying to blame others and gave the example of how Rane recently spoke about the alleged tanker mafia and said the same government is using these excuses to cover their own deficiencies and incompetence.
Furthermore, the group members also accused the CM of deliberately going slow on the Mhadei diversion issue given that the elections in Karnataka are underway and that Sawant himself had campaigned for the Karnataka BJP CM.
